I Took an Extended Break from LinkedIn. Here's Why I'm Back.
TLDR: Starting a new job killed my LinkedIn habit, first by accident, then on purpose. After a while, I couldn't answer the question "what am I actually getting from LinkedIn?" Truthfully, I still don't have a perfect answer.
When I started my new job, LinkedIn fell off completely. Not a dramatic decision. Just: I had a job, I was busy, and posting on LinkedIn felt like one more thing I needed to do.
So I stopped.
For a while, that felt fine. Great, even. I wasn't performing. I wasn't optimizing. I was just heads down ramping up in my new role.
Then the absence became a little more intentional. I started asking myself: what am I actually getting from LinkedIn?
When I had an answer, it was something like "visibility" or "staying relevant," which are real things but also vague enough to be completely meaningless.
So I let it sit.
Why I'm Back
A few things converged.
The first is honest and a little embarrassing: career insurance. I know what it's like to be laid off and realize your network has gone quiet. Building visibility when you don't need it is a lot easier than building it when you do. I'm not going anywhere, but I'm also not naive enough to think that's guaranteed.
The second is this website. I've been building out katiefrankmarketing.com as a real destination, with blog content, schema markup, and an AEO strategy designed to get my work picked up by AI engines and search. LinkedIn is part of that ecosystem because consistent publishing there feeds visibility here.
The third is genuinely what I do for a living. Growth marketing moves fast. The way I think about paid media, demand gen, AI tools, and GTM strategy now is different from how I thought about it 12 months ago. LinkedIn is where a lot of those conversations happen, and I've been sitting them out.
So I'm back. Not to perform. Not to build a personal brand for its own sake. But because staying sharp, staying visible, and staying connected to what's actually happening in B2B SaaS marketing is worth the effort.
We'll see what I actually get from it this time.
